Tourism and Cultural-Creative Industries (CCI)

Cultural-Creative Industries (CCI) including fashion, design, cinema, the publishing industry, visual and performative arts, and also arts & crafts and food & wine, are increasingly considered of strategic value from an economic and cultural perspective. It is acknowledged that CCIs contribute significantly to the quality of life in cities and regional areas, and relate strongly to geographically specific know-how.

Production skills and tools, as well as consumption practices represent multiple aspects of place identity, and as such are at the core of the co-creation of tangible and intangible cultural heritage and its promotion. In particular, CCIs provide novel canvases for the tourist experience, allowing local inhabitants to reap economic, social and cultural rewards.

How do CCIs contribute to the co-construction of cultural heritage? In what new ways do they assist the tourist experience? How do they help shape territorial imaginaries? And how can different methodologies be employed to study the multiple aspects that inform the relationship between CCIs, tourism, and place, in a way that stimulates future scenarios that deliver individual and collective wellbeing? These questions will be explored during the seminar series, through an interdisciplinary approach blending research in the humanities, the social sciences and economics, i.e. history, geography and management.

A multidisciplinary seminar series open to all the students of the following degree programmes, please note that the seminars will be held in either English [ENG] or Italian [ITA]:

  • Culture e Tecniche della Moda – CLAM
  • Fashion Culture and Management – FCM
  • International Tourism and Leisure Industries – ITALI
  • Economics of Tourism – CLET
  • Tourism Economics and Management – TEaM
